When, yes, when, life deals you a blow or two or twenty that take you from your course, it is hard to come back to emotional balance. In fact, there are some blows which require a process of recovering. In actuality, we are not the same, we don’t always recover the place or position we were in prior. We simply find a new normal while carrying the scars with us through our journey.
Some of the things that I have found helpful, are looking at the blessings in my life. The relationships that are important to me. The passions that I have. The gifts I have been given. When I consider all the goodness in my life, I find the strength to not dwell in despair. Suddenly, those things become more important than my pain. I don’t have all the answers and some moments of despair could benefit from therapy or medication. But, I do believe, that we were all uniquely created for a purpose. And, when I hear stories of Holocaust victims, current day Syrian refugees or just some of the ladies in my life, I am also reminded that we are somehow made of stronger stuff than we think. So, steady on all! Connect to your circle for support and consider the goodness in your life. Only a small amount of light is needed to penetrate darkness.
